At the invitation of the Ministry of Presidency, ITEES conducted a feasibility study to examine the current TVET system, review its existing challenges and issues, and to make recommendations for the setting up of a Superior Technical Institute.

About the project

Project Scope: During a state visit to Singapore by the then-President of the Republic of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli Berrocal, from 17 to 19 October 2010, he visited ITE College West.  Following this visit, H.E. Juan Carlos Varela, President of the Republic of Panama, requested ITEES to assist the Panama Ministry of Education set up a Superior Technical Institute (Instituto Técnico Superior del Este – ITSE) in Tocumen, Panama City.  The ITSE aims to train up to 5,000 students per year to help prepare them for the job market and also prepare them for progression to technical degree programmes at the Technological University of Panama (Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá).

Impact & Outcome: In a span of 12 months, ITEES conducted three workshops for Panamanian government officials, namely (1) an Infrastructure Development Workshop in April 2015 (2) a TVET Executive Workshop in February 2016 (3) a Strategic Development Workshop for senior project leaders in Mar 2016.  ITEES also provided them the curriculum materials for 10 trade courses.
