At the request of Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), South Africa, ITEES conducted an onsite Situation Analysis to assess the training in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and InfoComm Technology from 24 to 29 Nov 2019, for Majuba TVET College and Gert Sibande TVET College.
About the project
Project Scope: During the onsite trip, ITEES had meeting with DHET, assessed the current training at both Gert Sibande and Majuba TVET Colleges, visited Sasol Mining (Pty) ltd, participated in a workplace learning conference, and met up with Quality Council for Trades and Occupations. ITEES also managed to obtained relevant information on TVET from South Africa Qualification Authority (SAQA) and the related occupational profiles from Sector Education and Training Authority for Manufacturing and Engineering Related Services (merSETA).
Impact & Outcome: At the end of the Situation Analysis, ITEES recommended:
- Upgrading of Mechatronics workshops at Gert Sibande TVET College;
- Development of new training programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering and InfoComm Technology and pegged these programmes at NQF level 5 under the SAQA framework; and,
- Upgrading both the pedagogical and technical skills of the trainers from both colleges.
